Ellie Goulding Reveals ‘Anything Could Happen’ Lyric Video

I’ve been a fan of Ellie Goulding since her popularity skyrocketed in the UK with her debut album ‘Lights’. Now as she gains momentum on the US charts, Ellie has revealed the first single from her sophomore album ‘Halcyon’ coming out October 8 in the UK and October 9 in the US. Titled ‘Anything Could Happen’ this song introduces a new, clean sound for Ellie & I can honestly say that I really like it. If there’s one complaint I have, it’s that this song leaves me wanting more!

Though the single hasn’t been released on iTunes yet, it has been revealed in the form of a unique lyric video featuring photos that Ellie asked fans to submit over Instagram. Over 1200 photos were submitted in total! I think this is a fantastic concept and it really showcases Ellie’s versatility as an artist & how connected she is with her fan base.

If you haven’t already, I suggest downloading Ellie’s debut album ‘Lights’ & if you’re still not convinced feel free to read my review of it here.

Can’t wait for the release of ‘Halcyon’? Well Ellie’s got you covered with this 2 minute trailer for the album.

Music Monday: ‘Lights’ by Ellie Goulding Album Review

Image

I stumbled upon the music of Ellie Goulding through a random YouTube video, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Combining dance, electronic and pop music, Ellie’s debut album Lights, has the ability to appeal to many different tastes in music. The first song on the album, ‘Lights’, is the only single I’ve heard played on the radio in the United States. However, her album reached #1 in the UK, #6 in Ireland, and 3 of her singles charted in the top 30.

Lights starts off with the title song, ‘Lights’, a bright and uplifting, electropop song. The album then transitions to a more mellow tone with the synth-heavy chorus in ‘Guns and Horses’. ‘Starry Eyed‘ comes after this, continuing the mellow, relaxing sound in the beginning of the album. ‘This Love (Will be Your Downfall)’ and ‘Under The Sheets‘, the next 2 songs, are some of my favorites on the album. Ellie then brings out the piano for the pop ballad ‘The Writer’. After ‘Animal’, a catchy dance song with a rave club vibe, she continues with another slow song, ‘Every Time You Go’. ‘Your Biggest Mistake’, a break-up song, comes next with a fantastic chorus that I replayed constantly after I first heard it. ‘Salt Skin’ is the most eclectic song on the album. It’s dark, mysterious and gritty. Ellie’s voice is eerie and beautiful, and the lyrics (“…you’re as sharp as a knife and you fit like a glove…”) are haunting. Lights then ends with Ellie’s cover of Elton John’s ‘Your Song’ and a live, acoustic version of ‘Starry Eyes’. If there’s one criticism I have, it’s that some of the songs can end up sounding a little over-produced, especially after hearing how natural Ellie is on the acoustic version of Starry Eyes. I do hope that she will try experimenting with a more natural sound in the future.

One thing I love about Ellie is her voice. It’s unique and soothing at the same time. Lights is an album you can listen too all the way through, without skipping a single song. It flows very well, and the emotion in the music is well balanced. Even Ellie’s more negative songs have a hopeful tone to them. My favorite songs from the album are: Lights, This Love (Will be Your Downfall), Under The Sheets, Animal and Salt Skin – but every song is worth a listen. With the amount of cookie-cutter pop music out today, Ellie Goulding definitely stands out from the crowd. Her sound is fresh and full of potential, and I look forward to her future releases.
