Replaying through SHINee (샤이니): Countdown to the Comeback (Day 2 – The SHINee World)
Day 2 – The SHINee World
For Shawols and Kpop fans, the last week has been full of excitement! After the announcement that SHINee’s fourth mini-album, Sherlock, will be released on March 21 a stream of teaser photos for the boys – Minho, Taemin, Onew, Key and Jonghyun – have appeared on the web.
In honor of the boys’ long awaited comeback AureliaDiesel will be counting down every day leading up to March 21. For day 2, we will be listening to SHINee’s first full-length album The SHINee World.
The SHINee World opens with an upbeat, dance track called The SHINee World (Doo-Bop). This is SHINee’s ‘introduction’ song where they invite you to party in their world – the SHINee World. With the track’s awesome club beats and catchy lyrics, this song is sure to get anyone pumped up and on their feet! Next is Love’s Way, a slow song that I would describe as being a ‘hip-hop’ ballad. Love’s Way starts the album’s transition to more mellow, R&B influenced music, which is very prevalent in The SHINee World. SHINee continues the R&B sound they established in The First Mini Album, and just expands on it in this album. The next track, Love Like Oxygen, is more upbeat than the previous song, but it still has SHINee’s R&B edge. This is also the only song on the album that also has a music video, which you can view below (Watch more SHINee music videos and behind the scenes clips at SHINee’s Official Youtube Channel)
Next is Romantic, a ballad reminiscent of ‘In My Room’, a song from The First Mini Album. This song features an acoustic guitar in the background, and a great chorus. SHINee is particularly good at harmonizing as a group, and there are great harmonies throughout the album, one of which is during the chorus in Romantic. One For Me is next, featuring more great harmonies from the group. The melody for the song is stripped down, showcasing SHINee’s vocals beautifully. One of the best parts about SHINee’s music, is that the songs don’t hide the member’s voices. In every song, you can really hear the boys vocal talents shine through – what can I say, SHINee shines!
The next song is Graze, which also features some great rapping from band members Key and Minho. The chorus in this song is addictive, and again proves how good SHINee is at harmonizing. For fans of the song ‘In My Room’ from The First Mini Album, the next song on the album, Last Gift (In My Room-Prelude) is a beautiful piano ballad just as good. All the boys sound great, and if you want the full ‘In My Room’ experience, I suggest playing the two songs one after the other – they both flow incredibly well! The next song, Best Place, stays true to SHINee’s R&B style, featuring a hint of piano during the chorus. This song has another one of SHINee’s addictive chorus harmonies, making you want to play it over and over.
Now, the next song could very well be one of my favorite songs on the album. This is SHINee member Jonghyun’s solo track, where he covers Alejandro Sanz’s, Y Si Fuera Ella. When I first heard this song I had no idea it was a cover. Jonghyun truly made this song his own, and you’d think that he wrote it. The emotion he put into this song is fantastic and overwhelming. This track proves that if any of the SHINee members could be successful with a solo career, it would be Jonghyun. ‘Blingers’ (<–the name for Jonghyun fans) will absolutely swoon, cry and faint while listening to this song.
After Jonghyun’s emotional solo, SHINee closes out the album as a group with Four Seasons, another mellow, R&B track showcasing the band’s talent as a whole. With more harmonizing and excellent vocals, SHINee finishes out the album on a high note.
The next song In My Room (Unplugged Remix) is just a stripped-down remix of the original song from The First Mini Album. The last track on the album is 누난 너무 예뻐 (Replay) which was SHINee’s first single and is also from The First Mini Album (Read ‘Day 1′ of our ‘Countdown to the Comeback’, to see my review of SHINee’s, The First Mini Album!)
Now that we’ve listened all the way through The SHINee World, here are some pictures of the album hard copy I own! The particular theme/concept for this version of the album is different than the one in the picture at the beginning of the post. The photo book consists of a mix of black and white and color photos, and it looks similar to the theme used for SHINee’s first album repackage, ‘A.Mi.Go.’.
